A New Hope: Writing Journal 7/11/2019

Hello and thank you for reading my new series titled My Writing Journal. This week's theme is, A New Hope.

So, what is this journal about? Here I will discuss what I’ve been up to in my writing career. I will discuss current WIPs, word counts, editing goals, and other items as well.

Mohinder’s Wrath/Moonhunters Update

Starting off let’s talk about the biggest news of the post. I’ve finished Mohinder’s Wrath!

I can’t believe that I’ve finished this draft. There were so many times that I’ve wanted to give up, but in the last two weeks, I pushed through and finished the damn thing. While there is a TON of editing that needs to completed, the damn thing is completed and it’s all downhill from here. From writing it, I’ve created several possibilities for other standalones in the Moonhunters series. Once again, I’m excited to be writing this series again. Right now, I’m drafting a novella and a novel. Hopefully, I’ll be finished with the rough draft for both before Mohinder’s Wrath is published.

In regards to Mohinder’s Wrath, it’s going to moved to the back burner. I’m planning on letting this story sit, for about a month before I dive back in and start editing. I prefer to have fresh eyes on it. More than likely due to funding, this book won’t be released till 2020. However, one positive reason to release the book in 2020 is the fact that I can time the book’s release up with Jennifer’s due date, February 2nd. What’s so important about her due date? Well I’m not going to tell you. You will just have to read about werewolf pregnancies in Jason's Awakening.

So, what if this is a minor plug. If you don’t do the homework, you don’t get the grade.

The Date Lottery Update

About a week ago, I’ve received more beta readers comments about the story. As usual they loved it and I’m feeling more confident about this story, and after several edits and beta readers, I think it’s ready to be published, so stay tuned for the preorder date.

I plan on running though those edits this week or next week. (All depends on my mood and my beautiful youthful two month old.) After I’m done, this story will unfortunately be placed on the back burner until I can afford the cover photo that I want. Since there isn’t a lot of Black woman/ Indian men stock photos I have to pay a premium for a photo for an exclusive.  I actually ran into this problem for The Alpha Nanny as well, which you can read about in the next section.

The Alpha Nanny Update

Starting off, let’s go through the bad news. My Indiegogo campaign for The Alpha Nanny fell flat on its face. I didn’t earn a single penny and I was thinking that the time and effort for it was a complete waste, as I could have used the monies used for advertisements for actual book related expenses. Ugh!

You live and learn as they say. I’m not sure if I will ever do a campaign like this again because of the costs and the lack of devoted followers. This just goes to show you that old age saying of, just keep writing, is still true. If you write it, they will come. From this, I’ve learned that I’m not at that popularity level to have campaigns such as these. Perhaps if I gain a good following, I will try it again.  And just a quick shout out for those who either liked or shared the campaign on social media, THANK YOU!

Regardless of funding, I used my personal funds once again to get the editing, beta reading and cover costs done. As a result, The Alpha Nanny is nearly completed. I’ve just received my edits and I am waiting for the reminder of my beta reader comments to come in before I wrap up production of this title. All comments about the story have been positive, and the buzz on Wattpad has been great, giving me confidence that this book will sell in the long run.

As I mentioned before in The Date Lottery segment, finding a romantic couple for The Alpha Nanny was nearly impossible as the pairing of an Asian woman/ Black man in a romantic embrace is a rare in stock photos. It was even harder to find an Asian woman who was of Chinese/Korean descent. For the cover, I wanted something original, so I sought help on Upwork and received help from a photographer named Lenin Luna. While I’m not going to go into too much detail about my journey as it was posted in a previous post, I will say that I’ve had the best experience with him. The pictures he took were amazing and I can’t wait to share them with you all. Please note that in order to see pictures of the shoot you must be apart of my email list. With this said, I plan on hiring a book cover designer on Fivver to finish the cover. Once this is done, I plan on uploading it onto Amazon for preorder. Currently I am aiming for a Preorder date of August 30, 2019. This will give me enough time to get ARC reviews posted and market the book. Leading me to my next point. For any readers that would like a free ebook copy of The Alpha Nanny in exchange for an honest review please let me know. You can email me at remymarieauthor@gmail.com  As an added bonus any reviewer who completes the book and posts a review, will get a free signed paperback copy from me as well.

I also have a day job and a family, so my life always has it's unexpected turns.
